To start off some sad news, I learned of the passing of the initial benefactor of KOLZ, Carrie Karegeannes in August 2014. Carrie was the reason KOLZ began and is responsible for much of the material housed here. Although she never got to visit, she knew of KOLZ though my letters and pictures, I hope she and Rudy are smiling down on me and my accomplishments with their materials. I also lost longtime friend and mentor, Ed Bates, who with his wife Phyllis, were editors of The Begonian for many, many years. They were also putting out the Los Angeles Fern Society's journal at the same time and both of these magazines where going out MONTHLY. He is missed at the San Diego Begonia branches. They also made material donations to the Center.
View the 2012 convention page to know of the busy year here at KOLZ and San Diego as we hosted the annual American Begonia Society convention. Members were able to visit and enjoy KOLZ Begonia Research Center through a bus trip. It was truly a HOT day here at KOLZ!
The ABS branches here in San Diego are going well and we are renewing the Alfred D. Robinson Branch in 2014. With the help of begonia lovers in the other branches and those unable to attend those meetings we hope San Diego will once again have 3 active branches. Look for an ADR website, hosted here, for further information about meetings, which are being planned for the 5th Saturday of March, May, August, and November. The Mabel Corwin and Margaret Lee branch websites are being updated and more pictures of their shows and meeting are being added.
The pages for Resources , Web articles and sites are being updated and rearranged, I hope for the better. Pages with new links will appear until the all information is integrated into the new format. This will also allow you to see the new without having to wade through the old. Please contact me and let me know how I can make these pages more useful or if there are broken links.
Watch for new pages that selling duplicate or surplus materials in KOLZ Begonia Research Center. One of the first will be surplus Begonians.
